Arktikum Rovaniemi at a glance
Arktikum is a science centre and museum about the Arctic, with exhibitions on the history and culture of Lapland. It is a good indoor stop when the weather is cold or the days are short. If you want the full day of outdoor programs, look at the Lapland day tours from Rovaniemi as well.
A standard ticket costs €22 in 2026. Children aged 7 to 17 pay €10, and children under 7 enter free. From 1 March to 30 November the museum closes on Mondays. From 1 December 2026 to 28 February 2027 it opens every day, except on 24 December 2026. Plan 1 to 2 hours for a visit.

Arktikum opening hours
Hours are local time. Ticket sales end 30 minutes before the exhibitions close.
| Period | Days | Hours |
|---|---|---|
| 1 March to 30 November | Tuesday to Sunday | 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. |
| 1 March to 30 November | Monday | Closed |
| 1 December 2026 to 28 February 2027 | Every day | 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. |
| 24 December 2026 | Christmas Eve | Closed |
Arrive at the latest 1 hour before closing. That leaves enough time for the main exhibitions even though ticket sales run until 30 minutes before the end.
The Culture Pass with Korundi
The pass covers Arktikum and Korundi and is valid for 7 days from your first visit, with several visits allowed.
| Visitor | Culture Pass | Arktikum single ticket |
|---|---|---|
| Standard | €30 | €22 |
| Reduced | €20 | €17 |
| Family, 2 adults and 2 children | €65 | €54 |
| Children aged 7 to 17 | €10 | €10 |
| Children under 7 | Free | Free |
For most visitors who only want Arktikum, the single ticket is enough. The pass makes sense if you also plan to visit Korundi within the same week. Children pay the same with either option.
Arktikum and the northern lights
Arktikum is not a tour, but its garden is one of the places recommended for watching the northern lights on your own. The others are Ounasvaara and the Arctic Circle Hiking Area. The lights are never guaranteed. They need a dark sky, clear weather and activity on the sun.
If you go by car, use a marked parking area and do not stop at the side of the road. Stay off the river ice. The city has warned that the ice between the Jätkänkynttilä bridge and the railway bridge is dangerous all winter. For tours with a guide and transfers, see the northern lights page.

Arktikum as part of a day in Rovaniemi
The museum fits into a walk through the town.
Riverside and bridge
The riverside, the church, the Jätkänkynttilä bridge over the Kemijoki and the Arktikum arboretum are natural stops for a town walk. The bridge opened in 1989 and links the centre with Ounasvaara. Entering the buildings along the way may need a separate ticket, so do not assume that the walk is free from end to end.
The church
The church stands at Yliopistonkatu 2. The church is open to visitors from Monday to Friday between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m., when a pastor is present. Check the Christmas hours and any entry fee on the day.
Alvar Aalto in the centre
About 90 percent of the buildings in the centre were destroyed in the Lapland War in 1944. The Aalto centre with the library from 1965, the Lappia hall from 1975 and the town hall from 1986 belongs to the rebuilding.
