The trip types in detail

What each one involves.

Northern lights

The season runs from late August to early April, with many displays between about 10 p.m. and 2 a.m. No operator can promise a sighting. Rovaniemi northern lights explains the limits and safe places to watch.

Huskies

A short park ride costs €50 for adults and €35 for children aged 4 to 12 in the example park. Sleds run when snow allows, and carts run in autumn below 15 °C. See the husky safari guide.

Reindeer

Single rides on a 400 m or 800 m path are sold on site. A farm programme is booked ahead and includes a transfer, a guide and snacks. See reindeer sleigh ride for prices.

SantaPark and Snowman World

SantaPark is a separate underground attraction at Tarvantie 1, about 7 km from the centre. A day ticket includes the main attractions, such as the Elf School, the Magic Train and the meeting with Santa. Snowman World lies inside the village. It offers tubing, skating, a snow maze, snow and ice sculptures and a disco for €35, and is open daily from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. until 6 January 2027 and from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. after that, weather permitting.

Ranua Wildlife Park

Ranua is a separate day trip with its own journey. It opens daily, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. from September to May and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. from June to August. Dogs are not allowed. The park has no street lighting, so do not plan to see all animals after dark.

Snowmobiles

Finnish rules set a minimum age of 15 for driving a snowmobile, and a helmet is required for the driver, passengers and people in an open trailer sleigh. Off-road speed is limited to 60 km/h, and 40 km/h with people in a trailer sleigh. Driving on roads is generally banned. A rule of Finnish law is not an automatic permit at every operator, so read the conditions of your tour.

Lapland tours in summer

Summer has its own programme. Boat trips on arctic rivers, nature walks and midnight sun experiences are offered. Tour dates and prices differ by operator. Summer also allows other programmes with animals and nature. Check the date range of each product.

The sun does not set around midsummer, from about early June to early July, and nights stay light until August. Read the weather and best time page to match your travel month with the trips above.

Small wooden huts in a snow-laden spruce forest in Lapland

What to check before you book

The wording differs more than the prices do.

Date, product and meeting point

An operator can list several products with different seasons. A village that is open does not mean every tour runs, because snow, temperature and season rules apply.

Pickup

Pickup inside a defined zone is part of some offers. Pickup at every hotel is not a given, so confirm yours.

Cancellation terms

Terms differ by operator and cannot be carried over from one product to another. Read them before you pay.

Clothing

Clothing rules differ. The example husky park does not lend thermal clothing, while the example northern lights tour includes warm clothing.
